Accessibility

Accessibility Statement for www.wiltshire-pcc.gov.uk and www.wiltshire.police.uk.

This Accessibility Statement applies to www.wiltshire.police.uk and www.wiltshire-pcc.gov.uk and any sub sites hosted along side them. The sub sites are www.horizon.wiltshire.police.uk and www.specials.wiltshire.police.uk.

These websites are run by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and  Wiltshire Police and currently powered by Goss Interactive. By March 2021 the website will be run by Single Online Home (SOH) the national Police platform and will then use a mix of national and local content. With this change in mind some of our current pages and information are not being upgraded and will not be fully accessible to meet the WCAG 2.1  level AA.

We want the website to be as informative and easy to use as possible for everybody. You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible are the websites?

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • you cannot currently modify the line height or spacing of text
  • our PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software. We will not be updating pdfs produced prior to 23 September 2018
  • live video streams do not have captions
  • some of our online forms may be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
  • you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
  • there's a limit to how far you can magnify the maps.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

As we work towards full compliance one Single Online Home we are also working with our current suppliers to make improvements to the current website towards partial compliancy with WCAG 2.1 AA.

We will be improving accessibility by moving to Single Online Home by March 2021 and making improvements towards partial compliance on the current website prior to that date.

Any new pdfs or Word documents will be published to meet accessibility standards.

We are adding text alternatives to images, so people with screen readers can access information.

Controls to change contrast and text spacing will be introduced by November 2020

Disproportionate burden

There are some aspects of WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines that would place a disproportionate burden of work upon the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Wiltshire Police to make changes to the current websites. Our objective is to meet the accessibility guidelines through the new Single Online Home website that is being introduced by March 2021.
